PSE 6 layer blend mode menu not working

I have used this many times before, but today it is not working. When I click on the blend mode I pick one - say multiply, then the computer just goes through all the modes ending on luminosity. It also changes all other layers I 've worked on to this. Have I done something? I tried restarting the computer a few times and working on different pics from different shoots - some from a folder where I had already edited with no problems. How do I fix this?

I have been playing around some more and I think the problem is my mouse. Not sure why - the computer says this device is working properly. It works for anything else in photoshop and elsewhere on the computer but not on the blend modes menu. It just keeps scrolling theough them all to luminosity. Any thoughts?

Kathy, try resetting the preference files for Editor.

I'm sorry.... it was a total mouse problem I think. We tried everything we could to try and fix it ourselves. But as soon as we plugged in a new mouse it worked just fine. Thanks for checking and sorry I didn't close this question.
