Backup or Copy?

I want to backup all my photos to a network drive and/or a USB drive and was wondering the best way to do this. I figure my options are:

1) Backup option
2) Copy option
3) Use Windows Explorer to copy MyPicture and PSE catalog file

Does anyone have comments or suggestions on each of these options?

Hi Tom,

If you have the space, make a copy. What I am seeing is that over time
backups are not always "legible" to software down the road. I don't know
why because I'm not a computer expert... just something I've noticed.

If you don't have the space, make a back up and if you ever need to
restore, make sure you have the same application. I might suggest doing
a test run to give yourself confidence.

Hi Tom,

What you can do is map your network location to a drive letter. Then, in PSE Go to File -> Backup Catalog to ... and select the mapped network drive letter to backup all your files to the network drive.

I just found this newsgroup so forgive the timing. The best option is to copy to either an external hard drive or to cd\dvd.
